appreciation for natural
resources. This is all made
possible through the cooperation
of government agencies and local
interest groups, and creates a
rare and positive experience for
our youth.

C.A.S.T. For Kids Foundation aims
for presence across the nation
allowing children everywhere and
of any means an opportunity to
learn how to fish.
How To Cast a Fishing Rod
1. Setup Grip the rod below the reel with your right hand. Place your
middle and ring finger on either side of the joint between the reel and the
rod, and your thumb on top of the rod, pointing toward the tip. Flip the bail
to the right, using your left thumb while pressing the line against the rod
with your right index finger.
2. Aim Place your weight on your right foot. With your
forearm in line with the rod, point the rod toward your
target, keeping the tip at eye level.
3. Cast Raise your right hand until the rod is almost vertical. The weight
of the lure (artificial bait) will cause the rod to bend behind you. Without
pausing at the top, bring the rod forward in a smooth downward stroke,
using the slightest wrist snap.
4. Release When the rod reaches the 2 o'clock
position, lift your pointer finger to release the line.
As soon as you feel a tug on the line, raise your
rod tip and start reeling Jaws in.
Why "Take a Kid Fishing"?

Fishing is a fantastic way to spend quality time with a child interacting with them in
meaningful ways

When you take a kid fishing, be prepared for one thing: communication. It's a great
opportunity to listen and communicate with your youngster, and it will be an experience
you'll both treasure for a lifetime.

The outdoor sports rely heavily on one generation instilling the love of the sport into the next
generation.
"It takes 32 muscles to
frown, 17 to smile, but only
3 for a proper trigger pull."
When you plan that first trip for a youngster, it's very important to make it a short, but
exciting adventure. A child's span of attention can be fleeting, so make it only a two or three
hour outing . . . long enough to catch some fish, but not long enough for the child to become
bored.. Usually a morning trip is preferable. The fish bite better and the kids have more fun.
Try to pick a sunny day with moderate temperatures . . . and don't forget to take along some
sunscreen!
